Canton, Nov. 27.

The following is a notice issued by

Governor-General Woo of Canton re

garding the compositors' strike fo

|Hongkong:---

It is recently heard that the

compositors of the Hong Man

Kung Yik She Guild at Hong- Kong have combined together

and struck work with intent to

demand that the member of

their guild who has been de-

ported by the Hongkong autho-

rities be allowed to return to

Hongkong. They are not aware

that the banishment order was

issued by the Colonial Govern-

ment, and the vernacular news-

papers have no right whatever

of the people. This notice 17 JAN 12

therefore to advise and in-

struct the members of the Com-

positors' Guild that they should quickly inform their fellow- members in Hongkong to at once resume their occupation, and that by so doing they may on one hand make their living, and on the other help the Press to enlighten the people in their wisdom and knowledge. This

is a special remonstrance with the sincere hope that it will be

observed.
